Over the weekend I had my first official portrait assignment. A good friend needed a picture for work. He’s a banker. I have no experience in studio photography and I much prefer the look of pictures in everyday settings. But, I thought it would be fun to try. I went over to his house and draped a velvet cloth over a painting in his living room. Here’s the result.

The Banker

I have a second project lined up. Dave and Julie asked me to take pictures of their boys. I hope to do it sometime in the next two weeks. I’ll let you know the results.

For a creative outlet I’ve been experimenting with wide format images. Essentially, I’m having fun with cropping since I don’t really have a wide format camera. The following is from a trip to the Houston Zoo. I had the wrong settings so it’s a bit blurry, but I kept the picture because the moment was so precious.

This next picture is of three surfer gals. I took it back in January when I was in Del Mar.

If you get a chance, let me know what you think of the other wide format pics on my flickr site.
